Indonesia’s President Launches Batang Industropolis SEZ with USD 45.6 Billion Investment Goal

April 2025

The Indonesian President officially inaugurated the Industropolis Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Batang, Central Java, in March, marking the transformation of the former Batang Integrated Industrial Zone (KITB).

According to the Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media of the Presidential Secretariat, the government aims to attract IDR 75.8 trillion (approximately USD 45.6 billion) in investment to the Batang Industropolis Special Economic Zone over the next five years.

The Special Economic Zone SEZ is projected to create employment for approximately 58,145 people, with core business activities focused on manufacturing, logistics, and distribution. Additionally, the industrial zone aims to support 1,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The Batang Integrated Industrial Estate was previously governed by Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 106 of 2022, which focused on accelerating investment through the integrated development of the Batang industrial area.

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy stated that the planned working visit to Batang serves as a follow-up to the outcomes of the meeting between the Presidents of Indonesia and China in November 2024. He also highlighted the Two Countries Twin Parks initiative, a collaborative effort between Indonesia and China’s Fujian province aimed at promoting industrial investment in Batang.
