Unioil Lubricants Inc. (ULI), the lubricants division of the Philippine-based Unioil Group of Companies, has entered into a strategic partnership with Spanish energy company Repsol S.A. As part of the agreement, Repsol Downstream Internacional, S.A.U., a subsidiary of Repsol, has acquired a 40% stake in ULI. This move will enhance Unioil’s market presence and expand its product offerings in the Philippines.
Unioil has been a key player in the Philippine lubricants industry since its founding in 1966. Originally focused on re-refining base oil, the company later expanded into manufacturing its own branded lubricants. It has also been the exclusive distributor of Idemitsu lubricants in the Philippines since 1994. With this joint venture, ULI will continue to manufacture and distribute lubricants under the Unioil, Idemitsu, and Repsol brands, providing a wider range of high-quality products to local consumers.
The partnership is expected to leverage Repsol’s global expertise in lubricant technology while enhancing ULI’s manufacturing capabilities. It also aligns with Repsol’s strategy to expand its footprint in Southeast Asia. The collaboration will boost distribution, improve product innovation, and strengthen ULI’s competitiveness in both the local and regional markets. Additionally, the deal positions Unioil to meet the growing demand for high-performance lubricants in the automotive and industrial sectors.
