SkyeChip, a Malaysia-based semiconductor leader, has received an investment certificate for a chip design project in Danang, marking a significant milestone for the city’s growing semiconductor and AI industries. The development is expected to drive an influx of semiconductor, AI, and chip design projects in the central region.
Several notable investors have also expressed interest in expanding operations in Danang, including Mixel, Marvell, and Sibridges. Companies like Synopsys, Quest Global, and FPT Semiconductor are also planning to increase their investments and workforce training initiatives in the city.
Danang has been active in fostering the semiconductor and AI industries, with key firms like Nvidia, Qualcomm, and Intel exploring investment opportunities. In 2024, Marvell Technology, Inc. opened a new design center in Danang.
The city aims to become one of Vietnam’s leading hubs for these industries, alongside Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, with a goal of training 5,000 engineers by 2030, including 2,000 chip designers.
Recent collaborations include Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with major players such as Synopsys International, Marvell Vietnam, Viettel Group, and FPT IS. The city is also moving forward with plans to develop the Danang Software Park No 2, which will house up to 6,000 IT and semiconductor employees.
In addition, training programs have been initiated in collaboration with Arizona State University, which includes courses in microchip design and assembling, testing, and packaging. Further cooperation agreements have been signed with South Korean firms like LG Electronics, which plans to build an R&D center, and Samsung, which has established an innovation campus at Duy Tan University.
With 14 businesses already operating semiconductor and chip design facilities in the city, including Synopsys, Renesas, and Viettel Hi-Tech, Danang is quickly positioning itself as a central player in the global semiconductor and AI sectors.
